I am Donna Kenley, a candidate for
Alexandria School Board in District C.
My interest in education began with my mother who was a PTA President and Tutor. She advocated the importance of collaboration among parents and teachers, and she tutored English language learners to ensure they had an equitable chance to achieve success.
“Every child needs to be able to read. Nothing is more important than that! The key to an equitable chance to achieve success is tutoring.”
- Donna Kenley
My one-on-one tutoring experience at Samuel Tucker Elementary clarified the importance of community support for all students and inspired my run for school board. My service on the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) showed just how important multi-level collaboration and coordination is to make informed decisions to take care of our school children!
I ask for your VOTE for Alexandria School Board District C
in the General Election November 5, 2024.
Professional Experience
My dad was a wounded World War II veteran. He deployed with the 25th Infantry Division, to war in the Pacific. I deployed as a member of that same Infantry Division to the Republic of Korea (ROC) between 1982 to 1985. As a child, I learned the stories of my family, like my dad’s, who answered the call to serve. I too answered that call and committed to serve in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Colonel in 2004 after 30 years. My experience as a Military Intelligence Officer included Strategic Planning; Education and Training; Mentorship, Leadership, and Teamwork; Resource Management; and Crisis Action Center Operations.
I have:
- 18 years of educational supervision and teaching experience in graduate-level Intelligence and National Security-related courses at the National Intelligence University, Army Command and General Staff College, George Mason University, and American Military University.
- Supervised the Defense Attaché School; served as Associate Dean and Professor, National Intelligence University; commanded over 350 service members, managed staffs and directed programs with multi-million dollar budgets to include 40 separate organizations spread over 150,000 square miles.
Committed Service
I will make a positive impact.
I understand the value of public education. I attended all public schools through graduate schools and used the GI Bill to obtain a Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University.
Whether serving in the Army, teaching in a public university, or serving on the school board, it is about teamwork and mission accomplishment.
- I will use my experience and a lifetime of problem-solving skills to work as a team member while serving on the Alexandria School Board.
- I will listen to you, and I will act for our school children.
- I will dedicate my service to making a difference for your child.
